REMOVAL.
In consequence of their greatly increased business, Messrs. Blackburn Bros., have removed their Leather, Hide and Shoe Finding business to 46 Lake street. To our country friends to whom this house is unknown we would say, that it ranks high amongst the leading houses in their line in the West—to whom it is known commendation is unnecessary.

NEW FIRM.
We understand that Dr. Horace C. Gillette, formerly of South Windsor, Connecticut, has been appointed Surgeon to the battalion of Maj. Gen. McClernand’s body guard. His able articles appeared in our columns, on the care of the wounded on the battle fields of Pittsburg and Shiloh. We learn, however, that Dr. Gillette declines the above mentioned appointment, as he had already connected himself with a first-class boot and shoe manufactory that has been in operation in this city four years, during which time the Dr. has been with us as the administrator of C. N. Henderson.
The new firm take the store 46 Lake street, belonging to the heirs of the deceased. Their large real estate here, and all assets connected therewith, will be managed and controlled under the entire direction of Dr. Gillette, a brother-in-law of the deceased.
The new firm have secured the services of J. Q. Thompson, who has had an experience of twelve years in the wholesale shoe trade in the leading houses in this city, and their salesroom (46 Lake street) will be under his control, which will be opened by the 15th of February.
We hope New England will send us more such men of intelligence, energy, capital and religious character, to fill the places in our commercial community—the insane howl of the Chicago Daily Times to the contrary notwithstanding.

Gillette, Watson & Co.
of No. 46 Lake street, are the firm mentioned as having been formed by the dissolution of Whitney, Gillette & Co. They are the owners of the large factory on North Clark street, formerly owned by the old firm, and are running it with great success, employing in it 250 hands in the busy season, and on average probably 150 the year round. Their work is the same in general character as that of the preceding firm, but each house in the business has some peculiar styles of its own, making small differences, no doubt of importance to them and well known to the trade, but not of sufficient importance to notice here. They report having made of all graces five thousand and five hundred cases last year by the old firm, averaging about $55 per case of one dozen pairs per case, in value a total of over $300,000 of manufactures, ad this was only half of their entire trade. Their facilities are the same as those enjoyed by the former firm.
