Another landmark building (designated in 1959), the Edison Shop, 229 S. Wabash av., was taken down a few months ago without any notice, said Will Hasbrouck, executive director of the local chapter of A. I. A. “We should be alerted thru the building department every time a permit is requested for demolition of a landmark building,” he said.
It is not that there is no longer any interest in landmark buildings. In fact, a new commission is being formed which will have legal power to prevent demolition of certain structures.
