PEOPLE’S GAS CO. building II, at 122 S. Michigan avenue, on the northwest corner of E. Adams street, was completed in 1911. D. H. Burnham & Co. were the architects and Joachim G. Giaver the engineer. The building is 20 stories high, with two basements, on hardpan caissons. The exterior walls on the two street fronts, above the ornamental monolithic granite columns, are supported on steel cantilever girders.
PEOPLE’S GAS CO. building I was a six-story building with one basement, built in 1883 as the Brunswick Hotel, and wrecked in 1910 to make way for the present building.

Location—This building is located at 122 S. Michigan avenue, and has a frontage of 196 feet.
Occupancy—The building has been designed for office purposes exclusively. and embodies all modern features calculated to make it most attractive and desirable for office use.
Construction—The building is twenty stories high and of modern fireproof steel construction. Exterior of granite and terra cotta: interior finish throughout in East India mahogany, white marble and bronze. A central light court, 60×70 feet in area. extends up to the seventeenth floor, above which level the area increases to 98×76 feet. The court is open at the top, and the interior walls finished in white-enameled brick—thus ensuring excellent light and ventilation to the inside offices.
Equipment—The latest improvements and devices in office building construction and equipment are installed, so as to insure first-class service and cleanliness. Ample toilet rooms, equipped with the most modern sanitary appliances, on each floor, and manicure rooms, barber shop and shower baths are located on the tenth floor.
Elevators—There are fourteen passenger elevators and one freight elevator, all of the latest and safest type, in stalled at the north side of the building. some of them performing local service as far as the eleventh floor only, while the balance will be “express,” making the first stop at the tenth floor.
Service—Efficient service in all departments is maintained. The usual janitor service, except as regards the first and second floors and attic are included in the rental price. Gas or electric light is supplied at current rates.
The central location of The Peoples Gas building, on a street which is destined to be one of the finest and cleanest boulevards in the world, together with unusually good light and air. and comparative quiet, are features which are especially to be desired.
