MILLINERY BUSINESS IN 1912 HIT RECORD.
Chicago is recognized as a world market in many lines. This is particularly true of the great manufacturing and jobbing millinery business centered in Chicago.
In the earlier days of the millinery business of this country, the seaboard markets by very force of circumstances were foremost in the distribution of this class of merchandise because much of it was brought from abroad. At this time, the character of the business done from Chicago was sectional rather than national. Today Chicago is the most important millinery distributing center in the entire world, the jobbing and manufacturing firms in this market doing a business running into many millions of dollars per year.
The different importing houses have their own offices in Paris and are assisted by their local representatives in this work. When information is collected the problem of the Chicago millinery houses is to adapt the styles to suit the great and rich territory served by Chicago, which is no longer Western, but embraces the whole country.
The outlook for 1913 is perhaps the brightest that the Chicago millinery market has ever had.

In another case, the board listened to a request to use hotel garage at 57 E. Water st. for a public garage. A permit was issued by the city to use the four story brick structure for a private garage for the new Oxford House hotel, 225 N. Wabash av. The garage holds 110 cars. The Fisk Building company which owns the garage and leases to the hotel, wants permission to use part of it for a public parking. The case was taken under advisement.
