This was the first year of the City of Chicago and the first year Wards divided the new metropolis. In 1839 the boundaries were extended east to include the Fort Dearborn reservation, which previously stopped at State Street.
Bold indicates city limits. There was also a small tract east of LaSalle Street extending to the lake between North Avenue and Center Street.
