FOURTEEN STORY STRUCTURE TO BE KNOWN AS THE MARQUETTE BUILDING
is to Be Located at the Northwest Corner of Dearborn and Adams Streets, on the Site of the Honorè Block, Now Being Demolished.
The Marquette Building, to be erected at the northwest corner of Dearborn and Adams streets, on the site of the Honorè Block, now being demolished, will be fourteen stories high, with a substructure of steel. It will have a frontage on Dearborn street of 190 feet and on Adams street of 114 feet. The exterior of the building will be of brown brick, trimmed with terra-cotta of the same color. As the picture given herewith shows, there will be one fine large entrance in the center of the building on the Dearborn street side. This will, be forty-two feet wide and twenty-seven feet high, with four fouble doors leading into an octagonal hall which is surrounded by eleven large and rapid elevators. The entire entrance except that floor will be of the finest scagliola, with elaborate carvings. The floor will be of Italian mosaic. The elevator cars and fronts as well as all the ornamental ironwork of the building are to be of solid bronze. The walls of the entrance will be decorated with bronze panels executed by distinguished sculptors, representing scenes in the life of Marquette and commemorating his early explorations in America. Two broad staircases will lead from each side of the entrance to the banking floor and ample stairways will be provided for the floors above. The first floor will be used as local ticket offices by various railroad companies. The second floor will be reserved for a bank and the floors above will be used as offices. It is expected that the building will be completed by Sept. 1, 1894.
