OLD CHICAGO HOME WILL BE RAZED.
Home at 2140 Prairie avenue, built in the 1880’s and purchased by Byron L. Smith, late president of the Northern Trust company, which is to be torn don by wreckers.
- Prior to the demolition of the Byron Smith house at 2140 S. Prairie Avenue in 1936, the family had the dining room carefully dismantled and reassembled as a private dining room at the Norther Trust Company. The furniture was retained as well, with additional chairs being made by Marshall Field Company to exactly match the originals. The room survives today as the Byron Laflin Smith Guest Dining Room.
