Steger Building
This building constitutes one of the best examples of modern fireproof construction in Chicago, having a frontage on two streets: on Jackson boulevard 110 feet, and on VVabash avenue 52 feet. The shape of the lot insures for the building in every part the best of light and air.
The exterior of the building is of white enameled brick with glazed terra cotta trim mings, giving it a very effective appearance, while the broad and spacious main entrance in the center of the building on the Jackson boulevard frontage is a very attractive fea ture. The walls of the lobby are of ceramic porcelain and the ceiling is in solid gold leaf, and the floor of a French design in mosaic. All offices are in first selected mahogany with clear white maple floors.
There are four high-speed elevators located in the center of the building, which in sure the best service to all offices, and a large freight elevator is reserved for the general use of the tenants, with an entrance on the alley.
A large and finely appointed lavatory, with a barber shop connected, is located on the eighteenth floor. Lavatories for the use of the ladies are located on the ninth floor, with a rest room in connection with these toilets, suitably furnished.
The building is equipped with one of the most modern heating and lighting plants and the plumbing has the latest devices of the best sanitary engineers, and both hot and cold water is supplied to every part of the building. A vacuum system has been installed, which makes it possible to clean each office with compressed air.
